J.C. Devine, Inc. Plans Large Class III Auction at New Sale Location
Milford, NH: After 18 years of holding our firearms auctions in Bedford, NH, Joseph C. Devine, Chairman of the 33 year old specialty firearms auction company is very pleased to announce that they will be conducting their auctions at the new luxurious Radisson Hotel in Nashua, NH. (Formerly the Sheraton Tara). The new location will provide easy access, as well as additional comfort to all of our customers. Our first sale of the year is being held in the Nashua Radisson’s Grand Ballroom on February 3, 2008.

The sale will feature more than twenty Class III, fully transferable firearms which include the likes of M14, Uzi-B, Sten MKII, H&R Reising, Mac 10, Colt Thompson 1928, and MP-40. Also available are an Auto Ordnance M1, M2 Carbine, West Hurley Thompson 1928, 1928 Colt Aircraft, German MP-44, Colt M-16, Colt M203, Rock Island M60, M2 Browning by Savage Arms, 1919 A4, H&K G3 and more. Some other fine examples include a first year production model of a 1911 U.S. Army Colt Semi-Auto Pistol, in mint condition, a World War II U.S. Military Colt Service Model Ace, and a Commercial Colt Ace Semi-Auto Pistol, serial # 276. Also available, a pre-war Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .38/40 caliber, and a Pre-war Smith & Wesson non-registered .357 magnum revolver. Some outstanding antique firearms include a like new Colt Lightning Slide Action Rifle in Medium Frame as well as a Second Year Production Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle.

A very nice pair of highly engraved Balkan Flintlock Pistols with Silver Wire Inlaid stocks and an Irish Flintlock Dueling/Target Pistol by Rigby, are included in the sale, as well as an early American Naval Dirk from the Battle of Plattsburgh. Viewing of all the items is available at our showroom in Milford, NH, two weeks prior to the auction Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Antique Firearms Continue to Realize Strong Prices at August 19th, 2007 Auction.
Lot No. 15, an outstanding engraved and inscribed Smith & Wesson Model No. 1-1/2 Single Action Revolver in a leather case marked “Hartley & Graham / New York” sold for $13,512.50
Bedford, NH On an very nice summer morning J.C. Devine, Inc. conducted its August auction at the Wayfarer Convention Center in Bedford, NH. With a large stack of absentee bids in hand, and a good size crowd in attendance, the sale started prompty at 10:00 AM with strong bidding. Early items sold within their presale estimates, with many surpassing the expected highs.
An example of this was Lot No. 8, an antique Colt Model 1871-72 Open Top Revolver which sold for $4,112.50, while Lot No. 14, a Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver did the same, leaving the floor at $1,997.50.
Lot No. 15, an engraved and inscribed S&W Model No. 1-1/2 in a blue leather case with a silk ribbon across the inside lid with the imprint “Hartley & Graham / New York” drew strong bidding on the floor as well as phone bids. This beautiful nickel plated revolver done in New York style scroll engraving with eaglehead and wolfhead on the sideplate went to a phone bidder for $13,512.50.

The brass frame factory engraved Volcanic Lever Action Navy Pistol by “The Volcanic / Repeating Arms Co.”, Lot No.19, sold over the presale as well, achieving $9,400.00.

Lot No. 20, a Class III Keckler & Koch MP5 Submachine Gun by Fleming Arms sold for a respectable $16,450.00
Our Class III selection of firearms always draws strong interest, and this sale was no exception. Lot No. 21, a cased West Hurley Auto Ordnance Model 1928 Thompson Submachine Gun achieved a respectable $14,687.50.
The Springfield Armory SAR-48 Select-Fire Assault Rifle, our Lot No. 23 went over the presale, leaving at $11,456.25. Lot No. 25, an M2 Select Fire Conversion of an Saginaw Steering Gear U.S. M1 Carbine sold for $5,581.25.
Antique firearms certainly have maintained their stronghold in the firearms world. Lot No. 42, a rare Parker Grade D3 Underlifter Damascus double barrel hammer shotgun on a Number 1 frame went over our estimates, selling for $3,290.00. Another very rare firearm, Lot No. 49, was a Fairbanks & Lovell all metal percussion smoothbore with Boston, Massachusetts roots dating back to 1835. It is an all iron gun, with a skeleton buttstock. It left the block for $1,175.00.

Lot No. 50, First Model British Brown Bess Flintlock Musket

Lot No. 53, Pre-Revolutionary War French Charleville Flintlock Musket.
A couple of examples of Pre-Revolutionary War flintlock muskets are shown on page 1, being Lots 50 and 53. The first of these, a First Model British Brown Bess flintlock musket showed markings of “IORDAN [sic] / 1761” on the lockplate behind the cock, as well as a Crown over “GR” and a small broad arrow in front of the cock. A remarkable gun for its age, it left the auction for $12,925.00.
Lot No. 53 was a French Charleville Flintlock Musket. The musket measured 62-1/2” in overall length, with smoothbore .69 caliber barrel. This was another situation where buyer interest drove the price well over the presale estimates and achieved a very nice $8,695.00.
We are confident that our next sale, Auction 2705, to be held
October 14th, 2007 will make many happy. It includes a very nice selection of shotguns and rifles that include Purdey, L.C. Smith, Browning, Parker, Ithaca, Winchester, Sharps and more. J.C. Devine, Inc.'s August 20th Auction sees rapidfire bidding,
averaging 150 items per hour.
Bedford, NH The day may have started out with a fierce
thunderstorm, but it was all smiles inside the Wayfarer Convention
Center as a large crowd gathered to view and to buy at the J.C.
Devine, Inc. August sale. Early bidding was strong as evidenced
by the sale of a Pre-War Belgian Fabrique Nationale Hi-Power
pistol with shoulder stock and holster. Lot No. 5 sold for $7,050.00.
Bidding continued strong when Lot No 8, a casedColt 1849 Pocket
Revolver made in 1864 went for a bid of $4,700.00.

Lot No. 10, a cased pair of Coldt S.A.A. Revolvers Engraved
and Gold Inlaid sold for $9,400
A very beautiful pair of cased Colt Second Generation Single
Action Army Revolvers, Lot No. 10, engraved and gold inlaid
by Joe Condon and that were featured on page 506 of Colt Engraving,
achieved a bid of $9,400.00.

Lot No. 11, a Winchester Third Model 1873 Trapper sold for
$5,875.00
Winchesters always maintain high interest at Devine auctions.
Lot No. 11, a Winchester Third Model 1873 "Trapper" Carbine
that we recently had added to the NFA Curio & Relic list, presale
estimated at $3,000 to $4,000, achieved $5,875,00.
It was followed by Lot No. 14, an Ulrich engraved Winchester
Second Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle that showed some use went
for $9,987.50.

Lot No. 15, a late Brass Framed Henry Rifle in .44 Henry
rimfire caliber achieved $21,150.00
Lot No 15, a good looking Brass Framed Henry Civil War rifle
achieved $21,150.00. A Colt Model 1855 Military Revolving Rifle,
Lot No. 16, (shown above) sold over the presale estimate, achieving
$9,400.00. Lot No. 20, a nice Parker PH Grade 16 Gauge double
Barrel Shotgun on 0 Frame left the auction block for $3,525.00,
again above the presale estimate.

Lot No. 22, a cased pair of "Best Quality" Austrian Double
Barrel Shotguns by Johann Springer's Erben sold August 20th,
2006 for $23,500.00
A consecutively numbered cased pair of Austrian Double Barrel
Side by Side Shotguns identified as "Best Quality" and made
by Johann Springer's Erben drew lots of action from phone bidders
and audience alike.
The pair were made in 1933 in 12 gauge with 2-5/8" chambers.
This beautifully engraved pair left the auction with an Ohio
bidder for a successful bid of $23,500.00 Our October 15th auction

Exceptional to say the least
J.C. Devine, Inc.'s April Auction 2602, brings
$1,000,000.
Lot No 41, a magnificent Winchester Model 1866 engraved by Master Engraver Louis D. Nimschke sold for $63,250.
Bedford, NH: When 500 people show up to our auction
and 347 of them register to buy, you know you will be having
a good auction. People from 45 states, Canada, Switzerland,
France, Germany, United Kingdom and Italy registered as buyers.
The
top lot was no surprise. Lot No. 41, a Winchester Model 1866
Carbine, ivory stocked and elaborately engraved by Master Engraver
Louis D. Nimschke sold to a Florida collector for $63,250.,
however, Lot No. 30, a Griffin & Howe Mauser 98 Sporting Rifle
was a surprise. This Griffin & Howe, made in 1930 in caliber
".505 Gibbs/Magnum", presale estimated at $10,000/$15,000 went
to Missouri for $24,150. Due to the large attendance,
the 1,064 lots disappeared quickly, as the million dollars smoothly
made its way to the cashier.
This impressive pair of African Elephant Tusks with a total
weight of 94 pounds, Lot No. 20, sold to a New York buyer for
$12,075.

Henry Rifle went to Texas for $18,400.
Lot No 40, a John Ulrich engraved Winchester Model 1866, sold on the block for $16,100.

$16,100. A nice Colt Government Model National Match
semi-auto pistol sold to an Iowa buyer for $15,000. Lot
No. 52A, a pre-war Colt .22 L.R. to .45 A.C.P. Conversion Unit
went to Georgia for $4,887. Lot No. 55, a nice Colt Woodsman
1st Series Match Target in its original box went to a Pennsylvania
buyer for $3,220. A rare 1908 Swiss Mondragon semi-auto
military rifle, Lot No. 61, sold for just over $6,000.
Lot No. 70 was a good U.S. marked Colt M1855 military rifle
that went to a New York dealer for $17,250.
Lot No. 83, an Engraved Volcanic No. 1 lever action pistol achieved $8,050
Lot

much attention, with a presale estimate of $1,800/$2200, it
left the auction block at $8,050. A New Hampshire built
J. Brown half stock percussion sporting rifle was a good buy.
Lot No. 114, with its custom built pine box, sold for $1,025.
The next lot, No. 115, a gold and silver inlaid Japanese Matchlock
rifle sold above its expected presale value selling for $1,750.
Lot No. 185, a low grade Parker P.H. 16 Gauge Shotgun went to
a Connecticut buyer for $4,140. Lot No. 200, a Winchester
1897 U.S. Military Trench Shotgun with bayonet estimated to
sell for $2,250/$2,750 went to a California bidder for $5,635.
The auction was enjoyed by all concerned. Joe Devine personally
