As a convenience to buyers who unfortunately cannot attend the auction, J.C. Devine, Inc. will execute bids on behalf of order bidders who have properly filled out the bid form. We will always attempt to purchase the designated lots at the lowest possible price in competition with other bidders. J.C. Devine Inc. cannot be held responsible for errors or failure to execute bids.

All conditions of sale set forth are to be observed. A 20% deposit of the total bid amount is required with the bid(s). Deposits will be returned promptly to all unsuccessful bidders, successful bidders will have their deposits applied to the purchase price and credited on their invoices. Balances are due immediately after sale and goods will not be shipped until they are paid for in full. Net cost of shipping charges to be added to the purchase price. Credit cards may be used for 20% deposits on absentee and phone bidding,  Absentee bids may be submitted via fax, phone, mail or by our secure e-mail absentee form.

Bidding Strategy

We have been accepting absentee bids for 20 years now. During that time we have learned that some absentee bidders who really want the item, miss it by a few dollars, because they didn't use the best strategy for bidding!

All people who buy at auction have a "Stop Point" in mind. These stop points are usually on even dollar amounts, 100, 250, 750, 1000, 2000, 3000, etc. depending on the item and the pre-sale estimate. If the item has a pre-sale estimate of $1200/1600, some people will have $1000 as a stop point in mind. Therefore an absentee bid of $990 even with a plus would have a slim chance of success because the plus is no good because the bid would never tie at $990. However a bid of $1000+ would more likely be successful because the people with the $1000 stop point in mind, would be out bid by the absentee bidder in the event of a tie. The $10 difference in the bid strategy makes it much more likely to be successful. If you keep these hints in mind, you may be more successful in absentee bidding.
