*U.S. Model 1843 Hall-North Breech-Loading Percussion Carbine
*U.S. Model 1843 Hall-North Breech-Loading Percussion Carbine

The 21" round barrel was rebored to .58 caliber and rifled for Union use during the American Civil War. These were used by troops under the command of General John Fremont and were the subject of a purchasing scandal, known as the "Hall Carbine Affair", which caused Fremont to lose his command. Most of the metal is gray, the barrel has been cleaned and still shows some fine pitting, the rest of the metal exhibits even light pitting. One side strap rivet is missing. Manufacturer's markings are legible except for the date. The stock has a repaired chip to the rear of the action and has normal handling marks on an old refinish. It has the scratched initials of former users, "TPM" and "W", and two partially legible inspector's cartouches. {Ref., Flayd: 9A-278}
